Tips for a Frugal and Festive Holiday Office Party

The days of lavish corporate holiday parties may be behind us, but there's no reason to be Grinchy. The office holiday party can be a great gift of time and attention for your staff and coworkers,  a way to relax, reward, and bond - but it need not be expensive, just thoughtful.

Here are a few tips for keeping your party modest, but merry:

  • Make it a family affair. Invite spouses and kids to join in for an afternoon of crafts, games, cookies and hot cocoa. Maybe you can get the boss to dress as Santa!
  • For a more grown-up vibe, make it a holiday happy hour. Maybe you have a resident mixologist who can create a signature cocktail for the occasion. A few trays of appetizers and finger foods will keep the munchies and the big catering bills at bay.
  • Host a pot luck luncheon. Let your creative cooks show off their skills while the non-cooks fill in with drinks. All you have to do is provide a festive location and an extended lunch hour.
  • For a real bonding experience, gather your team for a service project in the community. These experiences can be a particularly meaningful way to celebrate the season.

What other ideas do you have for creating a fun, festive occasion on a budget?
